ACL INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM
Studies show that women are 2 to 8 times as likely as men to have an ACL injury. In 1995, an
article was published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine that found that female basketball
players in the NCAA tore their ACLs four times more often than male basketball players. In the same
study, women who played NCAA soccer sustained ACL injuries twice as often as male soccer players.
Call our office today for more information on how your team or league can schedule an ACL injury
prevention program. We also offer a rotator cuff injury prevention program.
We are offering our ACL Injury Prevention Program as part of the Montgomery County Recreation
Department's Winter Schedule of Programs.
GOLF FITNESS AND INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM
ATTENTION GOLFERS!
The sport of golf was forever changed late in the summer of 1996 when Tiger Woods made his
professional debut. While there were numerous components that factored into his success, the
one key thing that Tiger did, that no other golfer at the time did, was follow a thorough
strength and conditioning program.
World renowned golf instructor David Leadbetter says, "I'm a big believer in fitness, and if
golfers take the time to stay fit they can reach their goals." So what are the components of a
proper golf conditioning program?
Strength Training for golf
Flexibility for golf
Cardiovascular (aerobic) conditioning for golf
Posture and Balance training for golf
Nutrition and diet for golf
Injury prevention techniques for golf
We are offering a unique GOLF FITNESS PROGRAM through the Montgomery County Recreation
Department as part of their winter program schedule.
LAURA'A CORNER: EVERYTHING COUNTS
Many people feel that they have no time in their busy schedules for exercise. Often they tell me
that they can't schedule an hour or more at the gym to work out. The bad news is that if you don't
take care of yourself now, you will surely suffer the ill effects of inactivity later! The good
news is that everything counts.
Walking up the stairs at work or at home; parking farther away from the store and carrying your
own bags to the car; walking the dog quickly and for longer distances; gardening; housework;
playing with your kids; 10-20 minutes on a treadmill; painting a room - it all adds up. Exercise
is cumulative and it's all good as long as you work within your limitations and don't get injured.
If you have a stability ball, tubing and some dumbbells, you can get a great workout at home while
watching TV or waiting for a roast to cook. In other words, there are NO Excuses !
Pick activities that you enjoy so that you will continue to do them. If you want to improve your
fitness level, rehab an injury, learn proper form, or train for a sport, call and schedule an
appointment for some training with me or Dr. Horwitz. Do something and do it regularly! You will
be surprised at how much better you feel and how much more you can do with just adding some
exercise to your daily routine. Most of the ill effects we associate with aging are really due
to inactivity. What are you waiting for??? Don't put off your health and well- being another day!
You can't serve the needs of others if you neglect your own. Stop Procrastinating and
Move It !!!
MEDICATION CARDS
Many patients have discussed the health status of parents, spouses and children with me.
I appreciate this confidence. What I have discovered is that many of you do not have a brief
health history including medications, especially for elderly parents and/or siblings. I
suggest you have a business card sized health history for each parent, sibling and child
(if necessary). Keep it in your wallet or purse. Here is an example:
